What is the minimum age for driving a car on the roads?

Drive at 17 with a provisional license; obtain it using the D1 form at any post office. International license holders should check DVSA regulations.

What type of driving license is required?

A valid provisional license is required.

Who is eligible to teach me to drive?

You can drive with any accompanying driver whose license is 3 years old and is atleast 21 years old. You will also need provisional insurance, road tax and MOT. However, it is highly recommended you opt for a qualified driving instructor that will help you learn in the best possible manner

Can I undergo driving lessons in my personal vehicle?

Yes, if you have a provisional license and anyone over the age of 21 years with a full driving license and 3 years of experience needs to accompany you. You will also need provisional insurance, Road tax, valid MOT, L plates and a rear view mirror.

Is a driving instructor necessary?

No, however driving instructors are qualified from the DVLA to teach in the most effective way for you to pass their test. UNO Driving School instructors know exam secrets and test routes which will help you pass your test as quick as possible.

When will I be adequately prepared for my driving test?

You are marked on 12 different competencies: Manoeuvres, Show me/ Tell me, controlled stop, control, move off, use of mirrors, signals, junctions, judgement, positioning, progress, response to signs/ signals. Once you can display these competencies independently to a good standard, you will be ready for your test.

Is it permissible to pay someone other than a certified instructor for driving lessons?

Only DVLA accepted instructors can legally charge for lessons. Instructors go through through training and exams to make sure they are qualified to teach to a good standard.

How many driving lessons do I require?

There is no minimum number of lessons you must have, it all depends on how quickly you learn. If you are a beginner, UNO Driving School recommends 15 hours to start off and then you can book more if needed.

What happens after I pass?

Congratulations! You can now start driving as soon as you pass. You will need an insurance policy to start driving. You should also find out about Pass Plus training courses.
